解放初期，冀东芳草地。共产党员高大泉（张国民 饰）成立了天门区第一个互助组，带领翻身农民搭犋换工，完成了春耕春播任务，他的工作得到县委书记的支持和肯定。村长张金发（马精武 饰）则热衷于谷县长（葛存壮 饰）提出的“发家致富”口号，富农冯少怀买骡子在翻身户面前示威，遭到朱铁汉（朱德承 饰）等人的斥责。冯少怀挑唆高二林（苗壮 饰）和哥哥高大泉分家，暗藏的敌人范克明（张柏林 饰）则离间互助组内部人员争贷款，迫使翻身农民刘祥（谷子 饰）卖地，明知互助组缺东少西，挑拔张金寿卖车要粮。面对各种扑面而来的刁难和打击，高大泉没有退却或让步，克服重重困难,他带头成立了天门区第一个农业合作社......。After the relatively low box office takings of 'Intolerance', D. W. Griffith would revisit his epic film three years later by releasing two of the film's interlocking stories as standalone features, with some new additional footage. The first of the two was 'The Fall of Babylon', which depicts the conflict between Prince Belshazzar of Babylon and Cyrus the Great of Persia.。
