以描写中国老北京胡同中，一对孪生兄妹的幸福家庭生活为题材。故事主人公小东和小西，以及胡同里的年轻人们，为着各自的梦想在都市里努力的拼搏着。老东老西作为老一代的长辈，一方面要适应现代的生活，一方面还得操劳孩子们的婚事。而从外星来到地球的兔爷和雨燕，因为喜爱上了这里的美食文化而住在小东家里。由于文化的不同，闹出不少啼笑皆非的事情，但也渐渐融入这里的生活并且爱上了这里的人们。。A group of aliens has come to Earth to learn about its population, customs, etc. To avoid detection, they have taken on human form which gives them human emotions, physical needs etc. WITHOUT the understanding of what they mean or the inhibitions normally present in humans.
